I finally finished this dress. I started it last summer, when it was going to be way too big for Isabele. I had to let the hem out 2 inches, so that I can still call it a dress. As it is a summer dress and the weather is chilly spring right now, I think I'll wait till next week when it's supposed to be back in the 60's to make her wear it. I'll post pictures of her wearing it when I put it on her. But for now - here are some pictures of it on the hanger.
The Front
The front again.
The Back
The back again.
There are a zillion things I'd do differently if I ever make this dress again. The first is to finish it in a more reasonable amount of time. The second - not worry so much about it being perfect. The third - the back button plackets. I don't like it at all - must work on that on the next dress of this style - whenever that may be.
Lydia It's absolutely gorgeous. It makes my little dresses, that I'm so proud of, look so pitiful. Ha oh well. I enjoy how pretty your smocked things are and I certainly appreciate the time! Your blog looks cute too~
ReplyDeletethat's so pretty Lydia! I am jealous of your smocking ability, there's no way I could make something like that, even if I had a year to do it! But I suppose that's why I'm having all boys that the moment :-)
ReplyDeleteLydia, Your handiwork is beautiful! I remember you were smocking dresses in Phoenix when you and Brian "were not going to have children". I am so glad you have a pretty little girl to wear your beautiful creation. In 1977 I had an Air Force wife offer to teach me smocking in trade for me teaching her quilting. I told her if I had a girl it was a deal, then Garrett was born and it never happened! But I do love it!
